Nina Dobrev Leaving ‘The Vampire Diaries’

Monday afternoon Nina Dobrev announced on Instagram that she would be leaving ‘The Vampire Diaries’ at the end of the season.

I was devastated as I read the news, as many other fans were too. The question that keeps going on in my mind is, how can there be a show without Elena? She’s the center of the series and I just don’t see how it can continue without her.

I had heard rumors for a while that Nina, 25, and her ex-boyfriend and co-star, Ian Somerhalder, weren’t getting a long on set after the break-up and one of them would be leaving the show. I hoped that it was all just rumors and that both actors would stay on till the end of the series.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that ‘TVD’ is coming back for a seventh season. The CW show was renewed for another season in January, but it definitely needed to be confirmed after the shocking news of the star leaving.

Rumors over the weekend also surfaced when crew members posted on social media photos of the cast and executive producer Julie Plec from the group trip with the hashtag #ninawewillmissyou, THR reported.

I don’t know if the rumors of Nina and Ian not getting along on set are true, but her leaving the show is now a reality. In her message to fans on Instagram she said she wanted Elena’s story to be six seasons. For Nina, it’s time for her to move on, but what about the show?

Can there really be a show without Elena Gilbert? The show has centered around her and the love triangle with the Salvatore brothers. I guess my hopes of Elena and Damon ending up together are ruined, seeing as Damon will be sticking around. I’m sure a lot of fans will be disappointed that Elena can’t end up with Damon or Stefan. How can this love triangle end with the girl not ending up with either guy?

Caroline (Candice Accola) is my favorite female character on ‘TVD’, but that doesn’t mean I won’t miss Elena when she’s gone. She may not be my favorite character, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t enjoyed her storyline and that I don’t believe that she’s integral to the storyline, because she’s very integral. There is no show without Elena and the Salvatore brothers. As much as I love Caroline, I think the show could go on without. I would personally be just as devastated if Candice left though.

Caroline has been becoming more central to the storyline, especially when it seems that Stefan and her might end up together. It will be nice if Stefan can end up with someone, but what about Damon? He only belongs with Elena.

I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around how the story can continue without Elena. Trying to picture life after Elena isn’t easy, especially when I’m still in shock about the news. I almost felt like crying when I read the news, but I was too in shock to process it. I’m sure I’ll be balling my eyes out on her last episode. Will the writers kill her off? Will she leave Mystic Falls forever? Will she take the cure? There’s so many questions!

In Nina’s statement on Instagram she said there’s still more to come for Elena’s crazy story, so anything could happen in her final episode and leading up to it.

I’ve enjoyed watching the love story between Damon and Elena, even while she was still with Stefan. It’s been a great journey and I’m saddened that it’s coming to an end, and not with them ending up together. I’m not sure how the writers can end Elena’s story to make me feel okay with it.

‘TVD’ returns Thursday, April 16 at 8/7c on the CW. This will be the beginning of the end for Elena and for her relationship with Damon. The season six finale will air Thursday, May 14. Are you ready to say goodbye to Elena Gilbert?

Here’s her message to fans on Instagram:

Dearest TVD Family,

I’ve just spent the most beautiful weekend on Lake Lanier in Georgia with my own TVD Family, the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries. I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn’t just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party. I always knew I wanted Elena’s story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime. I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there’s still so much more to come before the season finale in May. Elena fell in love not once, but twice, with two epic soulmates, and I myself made some of the best friends I’ll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever.

There’s more to come before we wrap this up, and I promise you’ll get to hear all about my experiences over the next month as we approach the season finale (I have given an exclusive interview for the June issue of SELF Magazine that I am excited for you to see!), but until then I invite you to hop on the roller coaster ride that is Elena Gilbert’s life and join me as I celebrate her and prepare to say goodbye to her — and to my work family — as I move on to the next chapter of my life. I want to share this goodbye with all of you (this weekend’s pictures were just the beginning). You, the wonderful fandom who gave more love, support and passion than anyone could have ever imagined seven years ago, when a young Degrassi girl from Canada showed up in LA to audition for ‘that Twilight TV show.’ 😉 I love you all. Fasten your seatbelts. If you think you know what’s coming, you don’t.

Love, Nina

Julie Plec’s ‘Cordon’ Casts Leads, ‘TVD’ Star

Julie Plec’s pilot is coming along. A lot lot of casting decisions  have been made and the show is starting to take form.

A face you will recognize is ‘The Vampire Diaries” psychopath Kai. Julie has cast Chris Wood to play Jake, Entertainment Weekly reported.

David Gyasi from ‘Interstellar’ and Christina Moses have been cast as the leads in ‘Cordon’. Kristen Gutoskie has also been cast.

David will play Major Alex Carnahan, but will go by the name Lex. He’s a police major in Atlanta and is a “loyal and good-hearted police officer.” Lex is responsible of maintaining the quarantined area.

EW reveled that Lex “must constantly choose between what’s right and what’s necessary.”

Christina will play Lex’s girlfriend, Jana. She’s capable, but also trapped inside an office high-rise. She becomes the leader and helps keep people safe.

Your favorite psychopath will be playing Jake, “a former renegade turned cop.” His first instinct is to save himself, but he finds himself helping others too.

This sounds like a very different role for Chris. So I’m guessing Kai won’t be sticking around Mystic Falls for too much longer. He’ll have new problems to deal with soon.

Now we have character descriptions and faces for the characters. ‘Cordon’ is really starting to come together. Julie has seen success with ‘TVD’ and ‘The Originals’. I’m sure fans are expecting a lot from this show. It’s a different world and a different set of characters. It should be interesting to watch how the show plays out.

Stay tuned to hear more updates on Julie’s new show.

Missing ‘The Originals’? Here’s a Way to Fill the Void

She may not be in love with Jackson, but she chose him of Elijah.

She may not be in love with Jackson, but she chose him.

Hayley and Jackson were just married, Hope has finally come home, Kol is dead, again, and Dahlia is probably on her way to New Orleans. This is where ‘The Originals’ left us before the little hiatus. The Mikaelsons won’t be back until March 9. If you are missing the Original family, you can look to Netflix to fill the void with some supernatural shows.

ustv-supernatural-season-9-posterIf you like the brotherly love, betrayal and saving each other themes of ‘The Originals’, ‘Supernatural‘ is a great show to watch. The show is on its tenth season and just got renewed for an eleventh. You can check out nine seasons on Netflix. Sam and Dean Winchester are hunters and brothers. You won’t get too many vampires and werewolves in this show, but you will get a lot of different kinds of monsters.

If you haven’t seen the show, now is a great time to start the Winchester’s journey. If you’ve seen it as many times as I have, here’s a list of episodes that highlights the highs and lows of the Winchester family: Season 2 Episode 2: Everybody Loves a Clown, Season 2 Episodes 21 and 22: All Hell Breaks Loose Parts I and II, Season 4 Episode 22: Lucifer Rising, Season 8 Episode 1 : No Need to Talk About Kevin and Season 8 Episode 23: Sacrifice. The Winchesters have had some rough times as siblings. They don’t have the “always and forever”, but they might as well have.

charmedIf you are really into the witches on ‘The Originals’, you should check out ‘Charmed‘. These sisters and witches know how to kick some butt. They’ve saved the world numerous times all on their search for love. Phoebe especially has bad luck in finding love, something Rebekah can relate to. I particularly like the episodes with Paige, but if you are a fan of Prue, watch any episode from seasons one through three.

Here’s a list of episodes that really shows their sisterly bond. Maybe we can get to see Freya and Rebekah bond in the future. Season 4 Episode 1: Charmed Again Parts I and II, Season 4 Episode 21: Witch Way Now?, Season 5 Episode 14: The Day the Magic Died, Season 8 Episode 13: Repo Manor and Season 8 Episode 22: Forever Charmed.

Tvd01_1280X1024If watching brothers and sisters, monsters and witches, still doesn’t fill the void, you could always watch season three and four of ‘The Vampire Diaries‘. We get introduced to Klaus at the end of season two and then the rest of the family in season three. You could also relive season one of ‘The Originals‘ on Netflix. Hulu also has the last five episodes, so if you are behind, now is the time to catch up.

Just under two weeks till the Mikaelsons return. What will you be doing to fill the void?

Julie Plec May Have Three Shows on CW

mrsDevilos | photobucket.com

mrsDevilos | photobucket.com

Shonda Rhimes took over Thursday nights on ABC and now Julie Plec has a third show coming to the CW. Could she be heading for owning a whole night on the CW too?

Julie already has two hit TV shows, ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘The Originals’, now the CW has picked up a pilot from her.

According to Entertainment Weekly, ‘Cordon’ is about a deadly epidemic that breaks out in Atlanta. The city is forced to quarantine and loved ones are torn apart. The tragedy leads to the devolution of humanity and sees the birth of unlikely heroes.

Julie will write the show and executive produce with David Nutter (‘Game of Thrones’,’The Flash’, ‘Arrow’).

If ‘Cordon’ gets picked up for a whole season, this will make Julie one of only a few producers that have three shows currently airing, The Hollywood Reporter said. Shonda has three shows running at the moment and Chuck Lorre (‘The Big Bang Theory’) is also in the running to have three shows.

‘Cordon’ sounds very different from Julie’s current shows, but also sounds like it will allow for a lot of pulling of heartstrings, which she likes to do.

Julie could have another spinoff show if the writers choose to write one about Jeremy the hunter as well. The writers certainly opened the door for the possibility.

“There’s always talk about expanding the world,” Julie said to THR. “When you’re a studio and a network that has two shows that exist fairly well in their own separate universes, there’s always talk about opportunities to do that again. Not gratuitously, but creatively. I don’t have a pitch for one right now, there’s not one in the works, but we always chat about it.”

The CW is in the Julie Plec business at the moment and we’ll have to wait to see if she has another hit on her hands. I’m sure a lot of her fans will at least check out the first episode.

It’s Time to Say Goodbye to Jeremy Gilbert

WillMoseley | photobucket.com

WillMoseley | photobucket.com

Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen) has come a long way since he was just Elena’s little brother. He’s died twice and has been a vampire hunter.

Jeremy’s second death was one of the most shocking deaths in ‘The Vampire Diaries’ for me. I didn’t cry, instead I was left stunned with no words, just gaping at the TV screen for a few minutes after the episode had ended. I just couldn’t believe he died. I couldn’t cry because I was just too shocked by what had happened.

I did cry when Bonnie was able to bring Jeremy back to life, but it cost her own life in return.

When we first met Jeremy I wasn’t really a fan of him. He was just Elena’s whiny little brother. It wasn’t until he fell in love with Anna that his character really evolved. He fell in love with her and then had to deal with the pain of losing her, when his uncle killed her. He tried to turn himself into a vampire to deal with the pain. Luckily the blood healed him from the sleeping pills instead of killing him.

The relationship that has really thrived for Jeremy was between him and Bonnie. He did screw if up for a brief stint when he was seeing the ghost’s of Anna and Vicki after he came back to life. Their relationship may have been short lived, but the bond has always remained.

When Shane was trying to quell Jeremy’s urge to kill Elena and all of her friends, Damon came up with the idea of using Jeremy’s feelings for Bonnie to distract his urge.

And it was Bonnie’s love for Jeremy that prompted her to use her Expression magic to bring him back and killing herself in the process. When Bonnie’s friends were able to make her into the anchor to the other side, Bonnie and Jeremy were able to have the relationship they’ve never quite been able to have.

Then Bonnie was too afraid to tell Jeremy or any of her friends that while she could get Stefan, Alaric and Damon back from the other side, she couldn’t save herself. She phoned Jeremy to say goodbye and he was furious with her.

He didn’t handle losing Bonnie very well and went on a drinking and girl’s spree to numb the pain. Now that he has Bonnie’s blessing to move on and he knows that she’s still fighting to get home, he’s ready to move on from Mystic Falls.

We’ve seen Steven’s character really grow since season one and he’s become such a fan favorite. His storyline has sadly come to an end.

He will be remembered for his relationship with Bonnie, always protecting his big sister and being one of the hot guys on ‘TVD’.

Through everything Jeremy and Elena have always stuck together. It hasn’t always been easy, especially when Jeremy was a hunter with a built in urge to kill vampires. But he became an integral character on the show. Twice Julie Plec killed him and twice she had Bonnie bring him back.

Tonight we say goodbye to the little Gilbert.

Showrunner Julie Plec Making Directorial Debut

It only took six seasons, but showrunner Julie Plec is now making her directorial debut on ‘The Vampire Diaries’.

According to Entertainment Weekly, she waited so long because she never wanted to direct before.

“I was convinced I would be dreadful at it,” Julie told EW. “I directed a school musical in college and it was being so terrible at directing that made me realize I was such a good producer and that put me on my first career path. [Laughs] Then I had to remind myself that I also thought I would absolutely positively never be a writer because I thought I was a terrible writer for years.”

She also said that she tried writing and found out she actually was good at it. Or “at least intermittently good.”

Julie feels that after all of her years of producing she’s prepared for directing now, EW reported.

She told EW that in television the showrunner gets to call the shots. They choose casting, hair and make-up, art direction and they edit each episode. She also said the producer talks through each scene with the director “in terms of what you want for tone and character journeys and emotion and sometimes even lenses and shots and how you want the camera to move. You can be that specific when you’re collaborating with the director.”

She spoke with the producers and some of the actors about taking on directing.

“Everybody seemed really excited to see what I could do behind the camera. So I’m gonna dive in and see how it goes,” she told EW.

Julie seemed to ease right into the director’s chair.

According to Wetpaint, Candice Accola (Caroline Frobes) took to Instagram posting a picture of herself with Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert) and Julie on Julie’s first day directing:

“Girls hang on set with bad ass executive producer, writer, & DIRECTOR @julieplec! #girlpower.”

Julie also tweeted after she finished directing the episode: “For the record, directing is ridiculously awesome.”

According to Wetpaint, Julie directed  “Let Her Go”, season six, episode 15 and she also wrote the episode.

Paul Wesley’s Second Take at Directing is a Success

Caroline brings her mother false hope.

Caroline brings her mother false hope.

Paul Wesley took his second go at directing and there was a lot going on, but very little Stefan.

The Kai situation took a lot of the episode. Kai was torturing Elena and Alaric and Liv were helping Jo try to prepare to face Kai. Then Damon was trying to save Elena.

I absolutely loved the torture scenes with Kai and Elena, not that I like seeing Elena suffer, but I thought Paul did a good job. Kai is coming off as such a likable villain. I just thought the way these scenes were shot were great. Kai’s just casually talking to Elena in the Grill and in the school. Paul got the right close-ups, Kai was always so calm and Elena actually had fear in her eyes, which doesn’t happen too often for vampires.

It was thought that this might be a great episode for Caroline and Stefan, since the last one was great for Elena and Stefan. There wasn’t too many Caroline and Stefan scenes, but their last one made up for it. He just held her hand and was there for her. There was definitely that moment when you thought maybe they would kiss, but it wasn’t time yet.

My other favorite scene was between Caroline and her mother at the end when she gives her mom her blood. Even if it wasn’t flashing back and forth to the patient dying, it was still a very good scene.

Paul has a good eye for catching great moments between characters. Not to say that the action wasn’t good, but the best moments in this episode was the ones between two characters and the moment they were sharing.

Ian Somerhalder Makes Directorial Debut

monk_deadzone | photobucket.com

Ian Somerhalder will be making his directorial debut with ‘The Vampire Diaries’, season six, episode 16, The Downward Spiral.

Ian made the announcement on his Instagram and said: “Who is directing the next episode? On set with him right now;) Thank you to all involved in the decision-making process for giving me the opportunity to do this-I am so grateful. I’ll do my very very very best not to screw it up.”

He posted his message with a picture of the script, which was written by Brian Young and Caroline Dries.

Looks like he’ll be following in his costar’s footsteps. Paul Wesley made his directorial debut last season. Paul took another turn in the directorial chair for the episode airing after the break, Woke Up with a Monster, according to Wetpaint.

The episode Paul directed last season was the one where Elena and Stefan were married in an alternate universe. The storyline was about how the doublegangers are destined to be together. Though it seems Elena and Damon are denying fate.

We know what Paul’s next episode is about Kia having kidnapped Elena and Damon having to save her. Plus Enzo is trying to make Stefan’s life miserable.

What will Ian’s episode be about? There’s six more episodes till his directorial debut will be airing.

‘The Vampire Dairies’ returns January 22 with Paul’s episode.
