Taking a little Hiatus

I’m taking a little hiatus before the fall show season begins. The shows take a break and so should ‘Primetime Addiction’.

I’ll be back in full swing again the week of September 8th and I will recap last season before your favorite shows are back on air.

I hope you’re all enjoying the summer. Fall is almost here and the wait is almost over. What shows have you been missing the most and what premieres are you most looking forward to?

‘Scandal’: Addicting from Episode One

Scandal-Season-1-2012-posterI’m a huge fan of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, but I’ve never checked out Shonda Rhimes’ other show, ‘Scandal’. I decided to see what all the hype was about. I can now see why it’s such and addicting show and it’s even better than ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.

Kerry Washington is amazing as Olivia Pope. She wears all of her emotions on her face and she’s very tough. If you have a problem, Olivia will fix it for you and she has a lot of power in D.C. She hasn’t met a problem she can’t solve, but as the scandals keep getting bigger and deeper, she may not be able to fix everything.

Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes) gets brought into Olivia’s firm at the beginning. She’s learning what this group of people is all about as we are, but you won’t get to know who she is right away. You’ll have to wait till season two to find out what her secret is. Each of Olivia’s associates has a secret and each of them she saved.

Harrison Wright (Columbus Short) would walk into fire for Olivia. He blindly follows her every command. He’s a “gladiator” and proud of it. Huck (Guillermo Diaz) would also do anything Olivia needed and does, time and time again. Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield) doesn’t follow Olivia so blindly. She does ask questions occasionally and questions Olivia’s judgment.

Stephen Finch (Henry Ian Cusick) is the only one that knows Olivia’s secret and it’s a big one.

When I said that Olivia was powerful in D.C. I meant it, she’s friends with the President (Tony Goldwyn) and his chief of staff Cryus Beene (Jeff Perry).

The first season is just a teaser. The drama and suspense goes much deeper than that. The actors are outstanding, the storyline is an edge of your seat thrill ride and the setting is just perfect for this kind of show. If you haven’t checked out this series, you have to put in on your Netflix queue now. Season four will premiere September 25 on ABC, so there isn’t much time to catch up on this incredible show.

Once you watch season one, you will be addicted. Take a look at the promo:

Rizzoli and Isles Season 5 Episode 9

tumblr_mlcp5wBxiI1s07uamo1_r1_250I don’t think it’s too big of a surprise that Jane lost the baby. It’s sad, but I think it’s better for the show’s storyline. Jane doesn’t want to get married and she loves her job. She can’t be a mother right now. She’s all about the job. I think this pregnancy opened up her eyes to what she could have in the future, just not now.

Even from a hospital bed, Jane was still able to solve the case. Well, Korsak and Frankie did a lot of the leg work, but if it wasn’t for Jane, they wouldn’t have been able to catch the guy. It was one of those times when they know who the killer is, but don’t have enough evidence to convict, but Jane solved that problem.

This episode reminded me of the film, ‘The Net’. Someone stole the victim’s identity and no one noticed. She worked from home and didn’t have any friends. The victim in this episode was dead for years before she was found. Well, two people found her first, but didn’t do much in the way of reporting it. The gardner kept doing his work and her business partner made an anonymous call to the police, but the police never entered the home to find her. It makes you really think about the relationships you have and that you hope if something happened to you, someone would care.

Jane, her family and her colleagues are a tight family. They would do anything for each other and would notice right away if something happened to one of them.

Check out the preview for next week. Jane is going stir crazy with no work, so Korsak gives her an old case file:

Covert Affairs Season 5 Episode 8

Covert Affairs Season 5 USA Piper PeraboThere’s been chemistry between McQuaid and Annie since he appeared on the show, and I’m sure a lot of fans, me included, wanted something to happen between them. Well we got the kiss, right before we found out he’s playing Annie. I do believe that McQuaid likes Annie, but a man who owns his own company and likes to go in the field as well, he has to have his own agenda too.

Maybe Roger wasn’t as paranoid as he seemed. Maybe just constantly being in danger and watched weighs on you. He was right about dog walker, so he should be right about the information, but where is it? It seems strange that he would die with one of the biggest conspiracy theories in his possession and not the information, and as Auggie said, that wasn’t like him.

As much as I wanted to see something happen between Annie and McQuaid, I didn’t trust him. I was starting to want to trust him, but I didn’t trust him. I guess Annie will technically still be in the field, even if only in an unofficial capacity. I wonder how deep into the Chicago bombing McQuaid goes?

There use to be a time when Auggie and Annie would have confided in Joan, so why not now? They didn’t have to bring what they found to anyone else, but Joan could have worked with them and Annie would not have been suspended.

Check out the preview for next week. Annie is investigating McQauid. What will she find?

‘TVD’ Big Winner at Teen Choice Awards Again

TCAs-1026x684‘The Vampire Diaries’ had another great night at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday. The show came home with four awards, including Best TV Show Fantasy/Sci-fi for the fifth year in a row.

Ian Somerhalder won the Choice TV Actor for Fantasy/Sci-fi for the fourth year in a row. The first year the show premiered, Paul Wesley came home with the award and Ian won Best TV Villain. Ian has clearly been a fan favorite since the beginning.

Candice Accola once again won the Choice TV Female Scene Stealer award. She won the award in 2012 and Kat Graham won in 2011.

‘TVD’ has been very successful at the Teen Choice awards since the beginning of the show and that trend seems to be continuing.

Hillary Clinton Inspires CBS’s New Show, ‘Madam Secretary’

0 (1)Hillary Clinton has played a big role in young females. It wasn’t too long ago that she was the subject of a lot of girls’ college essays. She could inspire a lot more girls in the future if she does decide to run for President again in 2016. For now she has inspired a new show on CBS, ‘Madam Secretary’.

According to Deadline, the new drama came about because of Hilary and Benghazi. The executive producer, Lori McCreary (‘Invictus’), and Morgan Freeman discussed producing a scripted show for CBS with the Entertainment chairman, Nina Tassler. At first Lori said it was just about creating a great character “and then, guess what happened — the Banghazi hearings.” Morgan and Lori went back to Nina with the idea of “what it’s like to be the female Secretary of State, ‘and how it translates overseas when rights for women are not what they are here,” Lori said. Nina introduced them to Barbara Hall, the creator of Joan of Arc, and she ran with the idea.

Madam-Secretary-CBS-2014Téa Leoni plays the lead character, Elizabeth McCord. She’s a former CIA analyst who left for ethical reasons. Elizabeth is a professor when she is approached about becoming the next Secretary of State. The President himself makes the request, after the suspicious death of her predecessor.

Elizabeth has to deal with two teenagers getting kidnapped in Syria and entertaining the King of Swaziland and his wives in her first days of taking her positon. It looks like it will take some getting use to her new role. She has her own way of doing things, which isn’t always approved. Take a look at the promo:

‘Madam Secretary’ also stars Zeljko Ivanek (‘Argo’), Geoffrey Arend (‘500 Days of Summer’) and Tim Daly (‘Private Practice’).

The series premieres September 21 on CBS at 8/9c.

Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys Make You Root for the Russians in ‘The Americans’

americansfxposI like spy TV shows, but ‘The Americans’ is different than any spy show I’ve seen before. For one thing, the writers have you rooting for the enemy.

‘The Americans’ is about the Cold War and two Soviet officers who are undercover in the U.S. posing as Americans.

Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Philip (Matthew Rhys) grew up in Russia and were trained for the biggest mission of their lives. They had an arranged marriage and were sent to the U.S. to have a family and fit in, while they were doing their jobs.

They’ve been in the field a long time, but now things are about to get more complicated. An FBI agent, Stan (Noah Emmerich), and his family move in next door. This can prove as a difficulty or as a great resource.

Stan recruits a woman in the Soviet Embassy, Nina (Annet Mahendru). He doesn’t really give her a choice. He catches her doing something she could be sent to a Siberian prison for. So Stan makes a deal, she spies for them or they turn her into her government.

While Elizabeth and Philip are fighting for their country, they still have two children to raise and a marriage that is sometimes for show and is sometimes real. It can be a confusing world when you’ve taken a completely different identity.

Stan can relate. He was deep under cover before he entered counter intelligence. He’s so far into his work, he neglects his wife, Sandra (Susan Misner), and their son. He doesn’t know how to turn it off and the deeper they get into the Cold War, the more distant he becomes.

Stan is very likable from the beginning, but chances are you will be rooting for Elizabeth and Philip. We all know how the Cold War played out, but that won’t stop you from rooting for the Russians. Stan also gives you reasons to turn against him as the first season plays out.

The first season really gets you deep into the Cold War. ‘The Americans’ keeps you at the edge of your seat and lets you go with a very dangerous season two in front of you. Elizabeth, Philip, Stan and Nina will constantly be in danger and will continue to move forward.

‘The Americans’ is on FX, season one is out on dvd and blu-ray and season two is on Amazon instant video. Catch up on this exciting show before season three.

Rizzoli and Isles Season 5 Episode 8

tumblr_mlcp5wBxiI1s07uamo1_r1_250Anyone else left wondering if the baby is alright? I guess we can assume the baby is fine, for now. Jane hasn’t been looked at yet. For most of the climax of the episode, I was wondering if the baby was ok. Jane took a pretty good beating, starting with getting shot in the stomach. Granted she had her vest on, but she was winded the rest of the episode. It makes me wonder, if that could have hurt the baby?

Is it just me, or was that kind of weird for Maura’s new boyfriend to give Jane a very expensive present? I wouldn’t think a signed baseball would be an appropriate present. It just seems really odd. I don’t even think he’s given Maura a present yet.

When Nina came onto the screen and started to be a tech wiz, I thought, is this Frost’s replacement? And sure enough it is. She certainly is a wiz at the techie stuff, but we didn’t really get any kind of sense of who she is. Frost was great at the tech stuff, but he was also funny and very up on the trends. He’s definitely being missed from the show and the unit. While it’s nice that the team has a tech person again, I would like to get to know her a little better. If she’s going to be around for a while.

Check out the preview for next week. Jane is going to go above and beyond to save this girl:

Covert Affairs Season 5 Episode 7

Covert Affairs Season 5 USA Piper PeraboI was worrying about Auggie getting caught. When you’re blind, it’s hard to know who is around you. Then he decides to have an open conversation in front of his apartment building with Natasha. While I understand he was desperately trying to get her to stay, he was out in the open, for anyone to see.

I think Natasha is right to walk away. She could end up in jail and so could Auggie. Auggie could end up much worse. Auggie doesn’t even know that Haley saw them. There’s no way of knowing if Haley will know who Natasha is, but her decision to keep Annie’s health condition under wraps, may be in jeopardy now.

At least what Auggie was doing was for love, Calder is just confused. What is it about this call girl that has him so hypnotized? Maybe now he will finally walk away and stop putting his job on the line.

How careful has Annie been? Obviously she’s left a trail to be found, but that’s not like Annie. Unless Haley is just that good at her job.

It was a pretty close call for Annie and McQuaid, but did the target get out? It seemed like a pretty sure thing that they took out the target, but at the end of the episode, Auggie gets a disturbing phone call and there’s more to the story. That would have been way to easy to get rid of the person responsible to the CIA safe house bombing. I mean seven episodes in and case closed? I don’t think so.

Check out the preview for next week. Annie’s heart condition is revealed:

Spotlight On: Phoebe Tonkin, Mermaid, Witch, Werewolf, Hybrid

RayzLittleHell | photobucket.com

After starring in two successful shows in Australia, Phoebe Tonkin burst on to the American scene on the short lived WB show, The Secret Circle. She played Faye Chamberlain, the bad girl witch.

Phoebe, 25, didn’t let the failure of that show get her down. The very next season the actress gained the role as Hayley, the werewolf, who helped Tyler break his sire bond.

I think most fans didn’t like Hayley very much. She was coming between Tyler and Caroline and ultimately betrayed Tyler. It wasn’t until she got her own show with Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt), that fans learned to like Hayley. She became a character the fans could sympathize and relate to. On TVD she was a threat against the original cast. The Originals brought a strong following from TVD and is going into its second season in the fall.

Phoebe is just one of many Australians breaking into Hollywood. Her costar, Claire, is also from Australia and they worked together on H20: Just Add Water. This is a fun show about three girls who find a secret cave that gives them the ability to turn into a mermaid. The Australian actress seems to like her roles with some sort of supernatural power, mermaid, witch and werewolf turned hybrid.

The Australian actress that has made the biggest splash recently is Margot Robbie. She starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the Oscar nominated film, The Wolf of Wall Street. Margot also broke into Hollywood on a short lived show, Pan Am. She also starred on a long running Australian soap, Neighbours. Maybe Phoebe is following in Margot’s footsteps.

Before Claire and Phoebe reunited, Phoebe starred on several episodes of  the Australian soap, Home and Away, that has been on the air since 1988. This time she was more of a normal girl.

The Originals will return October 6 at 8/7c on the WB. In the meantime check out these clips of Phoebe’s blossoming career.
