Chicago PD Season 2 Episode 3

Chicago-PDEvery week the Intelligence unit put themselves in harms way to protect their city, I’ve never feared for one of the lives like I did on this episode. It was almost like the inevitability of Jay being killed was upon us and I think Erin felt the same way. She wasn’t seeing what we were seeing, which was probably even scarier. How long was JP going to wait till he took Jay’s life? The first episode of the series, the writers killed off one of the detectives and that kept playing in the back of mind. I was thinking can they really kill off Jay?

I enjoy shows that can get me on the edge of the seat thinking that a main character is going to die, when they really can’t die. This time though, it felt like Jay could really die.

So far this season we are getting a really good look at who Erin is. Each episode has given an in depth look of how her life was before Voight. This week she told a story about getting her mother a fix, her mom throwing up on her and Erin saying she had a drinking problem just to protect her mom. It’s amazing to think about the girl she was, to the woman she’s become. This is also good character development for Voight as well. He’ the reason she turned to out the way she did. It’s hard to think of him as a corrupt cop when he took Erin in and raised her.

Voight and Olinsky still seem to be playing by the old rules. They’re not really corrupt, they are just use to the old ways. I’m wondering if these old way have anything to do with why Roman has apparently met Olinsky before?

Only occasionally do we get to see Platt’s sensitive side and I never thought Nadia would be the one to bring that out. Nadia is becoming a very interesting character on the show. ‘Chicago PD’ is still very new and with episodes like this, it’s clear the show should be around for a while.

Chicago PD Season 2 Episode 2

Chicago-PDWhat I really love about this show isn’t the action, it’s the characters. Don’t get me wrong, the action is nice, but if I wasn’t so invested in the characters, the action wouldn’t have me on the edge of my seat.

Last season we got a glimpse at what Erin’s life use to be like, this season we are getting more and getting deep. When your mom overdoses and you have to save her at 9 years old, that memory is never going away. While I commend her mom for trying, Erin will never forget. Erin is such a multi-layered character. And I’ve enjoyed getting to know her so far.

I also have enjoyed getting to know Jay. I would like to say I would be a lot more freaked out about a bounty being over my head than he is being, but would you be able to comprehend that? He followed everything he was told, not going the same route twice, but he went to the same bar twice. He slipped up and if Erin was there, he would probably be dead and a girl might be dead because of him. At first I couldn’t understand why he was so calm about it all. But now I know, until his apartment was broken into, he wasn’t really taking it seriously. I don’t think he thought anyone was really after him. Since before then, no one had come after him.

Another great character on this show is Voight. It was great to see his vulnerable side. You really get to see a character when they are vulnerable.

I would like to see the aftermath of Antonio’s family leaving him now. How is he taking it? Has he heard from them? We’ve got nothing so far. Granted it’s only episode two, but I would like to know.

Check out the preview for next week. Jay may be getting in over his head:

Chicago PD Season 2 Premiere

Chicago-PDVoight has come clean with his team. He told them he got his job back because of a deal with Internal Affairs. He puts himself out there as dirty to bring down the bad guys. But just how clean is he? He’s got a stash of money in a safe, that I can only assume he got off the streets. It’s all great that he’s used that money to help people, but it’s still dirty money and it still looks bad.

Season two didn’t take very long to heat up. There was a fire fight at the very beginning and things in Chicago are looking more dangerous than ever. Jay has a $100,000 bounty on his head, all because he was doing his job. He killed a bad guy’s brother and now his life is in jeopardy. I knew by the look in the bad guy’s eyes that he wanted Jay dead, but I never thought a bounty would be on his life.

Erin is having a rocky start to the new season. Her mother keeps calling. We know very little about her mother, just that her parents split and she got pretty messed up. Is this another figure from her past that weakens her? Voight also betrayed her trust. She has so much loyalty and trust in Voight and I’m sure there’s so much about him that she wouldn’t like.

I’m not sure how I feel about Burgess and Ruzek having a secret affair. They make a very cute couple, but this is putting in jeopardy everything she’s worked for. A few stolen kisses lost her the spot on Intelligence, what does she think a whole relationship will do?

I like Burgess’ new partner so far. He knows his stuff and I want to say he was honest about his old female partner. With cops on this show though, you never know if they are telling the truth, especially if you don’ know them. Burgess needs to be with a good cop to help her get her spot on Intelligence, but it looks like she may have more competition for the next available spot.

No mention of Antonio’s MIA family, but that kiss from his informant, makes me wonder what he’s been up to since we last left him.

It looks like season two is just heating up. Check out the preview for next week:

Chicago PD Season 1 Refresh

Chicago-PD‘Chicago P.D.’ exploded on to TV with a very action packed first season. Everything went by in a flash and next week season two will begin.

We learned a lot about Erin Lindsay in the first season. She had a troubled past and Voight saved her. At the end of the season, Charlie, a guy from her past, came back to town. He threatened to expose a dark secret. In exchange for keeping quiet, she had to help him with a big score. Jay reminded her that they are supposed to tell Voight the truth so he can lie for them. She came clean to Voight. Her best friend had killed someone and she helped get rid of the body. They stopped the robbery from happening and Erin’s secret was kept quiet.

Last season Antonio got shot by an old enemy and when he returned to work sooner than his wife would have liked, she was not happy. She took their kids and left. She wanted him to leave his job and the city, but he wouldn’t.

We got to follow officers Burgess and Atwater last season and finally a spot opened up in Intelligence. Atwater got the spot, even though Olinsky believed that Burgess deserved it more. Ruzek and Burgess shared a few stolen kisses and that’s what stopped her from earning the spot. Voight doesn’t tolerate in house romances. She knows she has to keep proving herself, but when we left things, Ruzek and Burgess were getting into bed together.

The reason there was a spot open was because Voight took Sumners off, because he believed she was the mole for Internal Affairs. She wasn’t, his own Jin was. Stillwell blackmailed him with his father’s gambling debt to get him to spy on Voight for him. Voight discovers this and Jin ends up dead, but did Voight do it? Stillwell is not a straight arrow. He was having an affair with Sumners and wants to leave his wife for her, but if he gets a divorce, he will lose everything. So he tells Voight he wants 10 percent of everything he gets off the streets. So who killed Jin, Voight or Stillwell?

‘Chicago P.D.’ is back with season two starting Wednesday, September 24 10|9c on NBC. I’m sure we are in for another wild ride.

Here’s a sneak peek from the premiere:

Chicago P.D. Season 1 Finale

downloadFor the whole season it has been unclear if Voight is dirty and if he is, how dirty. Jin was taken advantage of because his father had a gambling debt, but was there anything for Jin to find to incriminate Voight? Now that Jin has turned up dead, was it Voight or was it I.A.? Jin was taking something from the computer and telling his father to leave town. This to me made me think he wasn’t going to give I.A. what they wanted, but maybe he was worried about Voight.

Jin should have gone to Voight in the first place. Erin didn’t go to Voight right away, but Jay convinced her to. That was her only option. If she chose to go through with helping Charlie, it would have probably ruined her life.

If Voight gave him 10%, where did the other money go? I didn’t think Voight actually kept it. Is Voight actually a bad guy. He’s protecting Chicago well, could he really be a dirty cop?

I was glad that Olinsky pointed out that Burgess deserved the spot on intelligence more that Atwater. I was thinking the same thing last week. I’m not sure who I’m annoyed with more, Ruzek or Burgess. She wants to move up to intelligence and she knows the reason why she didn’t get the promotion was because of the little nothing that Ruzek and her had. Now she’s jumping into bed with him. While I don’t think it’s fair that she didn’t get her shot because of a crush, she knows that pursuing things with him will make it more difficult for her.

I can’t believe Antonio’s wife left him. He can’t just quit because he got shot. He has to get up and move on and if going back to work is how he does that, then good for him. Antonio is making the streets safer for is family.

The first season was very intense. Two officers were lost, one was almost lost, Antonio’s son was kidnapped, Olinsky’s daughter witnessed a murder, Jay was accused of murder, Erin was pulled back to her past and Voight fired the wrong officer. It’s become even blurrier to whether Voight is a dirty cop. I don’t want to believe he killed Jin. One because he had his talk with him, shaking him down, and two because it appeared Jin might not have been going to go through with giving I.A. the information. And there’s the other question, was there any evidence to be found?

Who will be accused of Jin’s murder and who actually killed him? We’ll have to wait till season two to find out.

Chicago P.D. Season 1 Episode 14

downloadThis episode didn’t go down the way I expected it to at all. I guess in a way the beginning did. They followed the leads and caught Popo, but then Jay went to Antonio. I didn’t expect Antonio to want Popo dead, despite everything he’s done. Antonio is just not that kind of man and neither is Jay. I think Jay needed Antonio to give him a little nudge to stand up to Voight. Erin, Jay and Ruzek didn’t want Voight and Alvin to kill Popo, but they just always fall inline with Voight.

Voight doesn’t know it but I think Jay just did a huge favor for Voight. Internal Affairs is gunning for him and he has no idea that one of his own men is spying on him. He assumed it was Sumners and while she did have an affair with the new guy in charge, it doesn’t appear she is a double agent. Jin is the one that’s spying on him. With I.A. sniffing around, that’s no time to be killing a suspect. No matter how guilty or how much he deserves it.

What has Jin’s dad done and what will he give I.A. to save his dad? Why doesn’t he just go to Voight and tell him what’s going on. This new I.A. guy is dirtier than Voight. At least Voight does what he does with the best intentions.

I thought Erin was going to be taking care of Charlie and instead she’s introducing him to his son and saying she owes him. What is Charlie cooking up? Erin has done so well for herself, she can’t let him pull her back down.

Who will be Burgess’s partner now? I think Burgess has done better work to get into Intelligence. No offense to Atwater, I like him too. How did Voight know there was a little thing going on between Ruzek and Burgess? It was nothing though. It was one kiss and then maybe something more, but Atwater stopped Ruzek from pursuing it. I get what Voight is saying, that she should be working hard on breaking into Intelligence, not getting into a romance, especially with a co-worker. But nothing happened, so how can it affect this promotion?

Check out the preview for the season finale next week. Erin’s sins are coming back to haunt her:

Chicago P.D. Season 1 Episode 13

downloadDid Popo have a plan to escape or did he just get lucky? Either way a major bad guy is back on the streets and he hurt one of their own on his way out. Is Antonio ok? He looked pretty hurt and the other officers looked like they could be dead. Hopefully Voight and his team doesn’t get blamed for Popo’s escape. It wasn’t their idea to work with Popo and they thought it was a very bad idea, and they were right.

Voight thought the mole in his team was Sumners, but apparently it was one of their own, Jin. What was wrong with his father that he could be bribed? I thought the woman running I.A. was shady, but this guy is worse. He’s cheating, or at least cheated on his wife, he wants dirty money and is spying in a unit that seems to be doing really well. He’s leaving his wife for Sumners and because his wife will take him for everything he has, he wants the money off the street for his own pocket. I’m not even sure Voight is keeping any of the money he gets from the street. He may seem dirty in some ways, but he’s the kind of guy I would want protecting my streets. I know he’d keep it safe. I feel like this new guy running I.A. is spinning out of control and it could have serious consequences.

So a guy from Erin’s past has walked back into her life. It’s unclear what role he had in her past life, but it’s clear he’s a criminal of some kind. Erin is such a sophisticated, strong lady, but when he walked in, she was none of those things. Could he pull her back down or will she handle it? I think it might be ok to let Voight or Jay take care of this one. There would be no shame in that.

It doesn’t really surprise me that Ruzek’s fiancee broke up with him. It’s not easy being in a relationship with someone that has a demanding job, especially someone who is a detective. Alvin was right, that it was never going to work.  I think when you’re in a job like that, you need someone who understands the demands of the job. Maybe Burgess and him can give it a go now. I was so happy when Atwater stood up for Burgess like that though. He didn’t care that Ruzek was his superior, he was there for his partner. That’s what’s great about this show, the close relationships and how they would do anything to protect each other.

Check out the preview for next week. The team searches for Popo and they won’t let him get away with what he’s done:

Chicago P.D. Season 1 Episode 12: Chicago Fire Crossover

downloadVoight may bend the rules from time to time, but when it comes to catching bad guys that hurt his people and his city, he’ll do anything to catch his guy. And he wasn’t going to let any FBI agent tell him how to conduct his investigation.

What on earth was that FBI agent doing? He was following all the wrong leads. It’s funny how when a show is about the detectives, the FBI agents are either useless or the ones getting in the way. If a show is about the FBI agents, then it’s the cops that are useless. They can’t just both be equally good and actually work as a team.

To really appreciate this Chicago P.D. episode you had to watch Chicago Fire first. Now I’ve never seen an episode of Chicago Fire before and I don’t really know the characters, but I want to learn more about them now. Also you couldn’t truly understand what Burgess was going through with her niece or what actually happened, without watching the Chicago Fire episode first. So if you are only a fan of Chicago P.D. and decided to just watch Chicago P.D., I would take the time to watch Chicago Fire now.

It was a powerful crossover event. So many people got hurt. The Fire department worked hard to rescue who they could. Then the intelligence unit came in to find out who could have done such a thing. In the aftermath of the explosion you really wanted to see the person pay. Plus it was a pretty good twist that the first bomb went off at the wrong time. It’s sad that so many innocent people had to die because of it though.

The intended victims were the Chicago P.D. and the Fire department. This criminal was hurt because the Chicago P.D. arrested his dad and in the take down killed his mother. His dad was a major crook though and deserved to go to jail. He believes his daddy is innocent and wanted him released. I don’t know if the guy was that delusional to think his dad was actually innocent or if he just wanted his dad released. It’s horrible his mother died, but that doesn’t change who is father is.

Erin is getting pretty cozy with that Chicago Fire character. How does that work, having a relationship between two shows? I guess that could mean more crossovers, but it can’t really work. If felt like there was a purpose to the storyline though. That it wasn’t just thrown in, but what the purpose is I don’t know.

Check out the preview for next week. Popo is released and they have to work with the man that took one of their own:

Chicago P.D. Season 1 Episode 11

downloadThis case left a lot of bruises and in more way than one.

Burgess wanted to step-up and prove herself to Voight. So she put herself right into the thick of it. She’s such a sweet, nice girl, that she didn’t seem the right person to play the part of a hooker.

I don’t think she knew what she was walking into, but she did her job and got beaten up pretty badly in the process. She’s lucky the guy didn’t beat her to a pulp. He did a pretty good number on Ruzek and Jay as well, and they are grown men that are pretty good at fighting.

Now the guy that beat up three of their team is off in the wind and the case gets taken away from them.

This is a very close unit and they would have stopped at nothing to get him, not just because that’s their job, but because he hurt them. So he has to pay. To top that off, Popo from the beginning, who killed one of their own and kidnapped Antonio’s son, is being released to play bait to get this guy that’s in the wind, and they are on the outside.

What’s to say that Popo doesn’t come after one of them again?

Antonio’s wife and kids should go on vacation for a little bit and any other loved ones of the team should watch their back.

This is one of the most intense and personal cop shows I have ever seen. It gives you the fascinating cases, keeps you on the edge of your seat and has you feeling for each and every one of them.

Chicago P.D. will return in three weeks with a two night cross over event with Chicago Fire starting April 29:

Chicago P.D. Season 1 Episode 10

downloadThe case was really interesting, but I was distracted by Jay trying to prove his innocence to care about the case. I wanted this episode to more about the case of Jay proving he didn’t kill the guy.

When the last episode finished I couldn’t believe that Jay killed the guy, but I did believe that he would do anything to make sure another young boy didn’t die. When this episode started I knew he was innocent. They way he looked when he found out the guy had died proved his innocence to me. But as Ruzek said, with the way things work in that unit, he could have easily done it.

I would like to say I didn’t expect the father to have killed his own son, but it did cross my mind, especially when he had lied in his statement. I felt bad for the father. He stuck up for his son all those years and then he found out his son was guilty and was going to strike again. That must be a really hard thing for a parent to face.

That guy that Erin was kissing at the end of the episode was cute and all, but I still want to see her with Jay. I realize the show has just started so they can’t let Erin and Jay just be together. First they had Voight keeping them apart and then the whole thing with Voight’s son tore them apart. I’m looking forward to having that flirty chemistry between them come back in there scenes. I hope that is soon. They were barely on screen together this week.

Check out the preview for next week. Burgess goes undercover, but can she handle the pressure:
