After starring in two successful shows in Australia, Phoebe Tonkin burst on to the American scene on the short lived WB show, The Secret Circle. She played Faye Chamberlain, the bad girl witch.

Phoebe, 25, didn’t let the failure of that show get her down. The very next season the actress gained the role as Hayley, the werewolf, who helped Tyler break his sire bond.

I think most fans didn’t like Hayley very much. She was coming between Tyler and Caroline and ultimately betrayed Tyler. It wasn’t until she got her own show with Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt), that fans learned to like Hayley. She became a character the fans could sympathize and relate to. On TVD she was a threat against the original cast. The Originals brought a strong following from TVD and is going into its second season in the fall.

Phoebe is just one of many Australians breaking into Hollywood. Her costar, Claire, is also from Australia and they worked together on H20: Just Add Water. This is a fun show about three girls who find a secret cave that gives them the ability to turn into a mermaid. The Australian actress seems to like her roles with some sort of supernatural power, mermaid, witch and werewolf turned hybrid.

The Australian actress that has made the biggest splash recently is Margot Robbie. She starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the Oscar nominated film, The Wolf of Wall Street. Margot also broke into Hollywood on a short lived show, Pan Am. She also starred on a long running Australian soap, Neighbours. Maybe Phoebe is following in Margot’s footsteps.

Before Claire and Phoebe reunited, Phoebe starred on several episodes of  the Australian soap, Home and Away, that has been on the air since 1988. This time she was more of a normal girl.

The Originals will return October 6 at 8/7c on the WB. In the meantime check out these clips of Phoebe’s blossoming career.

Seven New Characters on The Vampire Diaries

The-Vampire-Diaries-season-5Season six is still a while away, but ‘The Vampire Diaries’ has been very busy this summer casting a lot of new characters.

There are seven new people heading to Mystic Falls: Gabrielle Walsh (‘Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones’), Colin Ferguson (‘Eureka’), Chris Wood (‘The Carrie Diaries’), Jodi Lyn O’Keefe (‘Hit the Floor’), Marco James (‘The Client List’), Emily Chang (‘Days of Our Lives’) and Jayson Warner Smith (‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues’).

According to Deadline, Gabrielle will play Sarah and she will be introduced in the season six premiere. The role might be reoccurring, but the site said: she “comes to Mystic Falls with spunk, street smarts and a shady agenda.”

Zap2it reported that Colin will play Tripp and will be the head of a community militia that will “do anything to protect his town.”

Creator of ‘TVD’, Julie Plec, went to Twitter on July 14 to tease Colin’s role to fans:

“Hey #TVD twitter folk, see how long it takes for you guys to figure out who just got cast in the new role of TRIPP for season 6. For those of you who are sneaky/savvy and see the casting sides, the role was formerly called MITCH.”

A fan was quick to take a guess and tweeted to Julie asking if it was Colin and she replied, “Yes indeed!”, zap2it said.

Colin then went to Twitter himself and said: “Hmmm…. Seem to have ‘tripped’ my way into a new role… Mystic Falls, hunh? This is gonna be fun :). “Classic! Everyone who knows the show is telling me I’m going to die. I think I packed too much..”

Chris is staying at The CW, but has left New York City and is moving into Mystic Falls. According to TV Guide, he will be playing the character, Kai: “a charmingly unstable newcomer with the unsettling ability to seem normal as the situation demands.”

Digital Spy said that Kai won’t appear on the show till the third episode.

There will be a new doctor in town when Jodi arrives. Hypable reported she will be playing Jo and will be an accomplished doctor at the university hospital and will appear in the first episode of season six.

Marco will play an upperclassman, med student at Whitmore College, Entertainment Weekly reported.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emily has been cast in the reoccurring role, Ivy, and will be introduced in the season six premiere. She is described as “the quintessential girl next door with an unexpected wild side”.

Jayson has won a minor role on ‘TVD’ and will be appearing in at least two episodes, The Wrap reported.

Most fans are wondering about the fate of Damon and Bonnie, but they will have a lot of new characters to get to know when ‘TVD’ returns for its sixth season on October 2.

TVD/The Originals Crossover: Tyler Starts His Revenge

Tyler has arrived in New Orleans and he’s not acting like the Tyler we all love. Caroline would not be proud of his actions.

Hayley did betray Tyler when she was part of the reason the hybrids were killed, but she wanted to know about her family and a lot of people were tricked when the professor was trying to resurrect Silas.

I don’t think Carol would approve of her son’s methods to get revenge for her. She would want him to be happy.

If Tyler had never tested his theory that the baby could create hybrids, Klaus might have never known about it. That’s assuming he didn’t know already. But as Hayley said it seemed like the hybrid was sired to her, not Klaus. Was Dwayne sired to the baby and because the baby is in Hayley, he was sired to Hayley?

I was getting worried there for a brief moment that Klaus was going to kill Tyler, but it seems that this is just the beginning of Tyler’s revenge. Klaus told Tyler that he means nothing to him. But what will Klaus think when he finds out that Tyler has teamed up with Marcel?

Tyler told Marcel that Hayley’s baby would be the end of the vampire species. Did Tyler miss the fact that the hybrid he created was sired to Hayley?

This poor baby is now targeted and she has nothing to do with the war between werewolves and vampires or the war between Klaus and Marcel. So does this mean Marcel, Tyler and Rebekah will be trying to destroy Klaus?

So what did everyone think of Tyler’s entrance into New Orleans? Is he the bad guy or the good guy? It’s hard to tell, but he seems to be willing to do anything to seek revenge for everything Klaus has taken from him. But Tyler you still had Caroline. I don’t think Caroline would want this Tyler anyways. It looks like Tyler is in this till the death.
