If you watched the long promo for Sunday’s premiere of ‘Madam Secretary’, then there wasn’t a lot of surprises. A lot of the episode was in the preview, but there was a nice little thread of story that the trailer did not show. This storyline looks like it’s going to have a big part on the series and make the new Secretary of State, Elizabeth McCord’s (Tea Leoni), job at lot more dangerous.
When Elizabeth took the job she was looking forward to making change in the world, but what she is finding out, is that she’s getting a lot of opposition to do her job.
She use to be an analyst at the CIA, the president was the one who gave her the job and trained her and now he’s come to her to take the position of secretary of state after the former one died. He told her that only she can do the job. He wanted someone who wasn’t political, but the people on her team don’t seem to agree with the methods she has of doing things. She’s not a politician, so she doesn’t think like a politician, but it seems like her coworkers would like her to think like one.
The only thing that disappointed me about this episode was that I knew most of it all ready. It’s like when we watch a trailer for a film and it shows you all the good parts and the entire story. Then you get all excited to sit down and watch it and realize you’ve basically seen the movie already. That was how watching the premiere felt like. There was some more character development and the scenes were longer than the preview, but in essence, you already knew what was going to happen. If it wasn’t for that nice storyline being put in, to get you hooked, then there wouldn’t been any point in watching.
I am looking forward to next week’s episode, where I hope there will be more surprises.
