When I first saw the preview and saw that Kathleen Robertson, Taye Diggs and Tom Felton would be on the show, it was immediately put on my must watch list.
Kathleen use to play Clare Arnold on ‘Beverly Hills 90201’ as the type A personality who skipped freshman year of college because she had enough credits. Now she plays Hildy Mulligan, a divorced, single mother trying to make ends meet and an inspector in San Francisco. Her partner, Terry English, is played by Taye. I use to watch him as the sexy doctor on ‘Private Practice’ and now he’s the sexy inspector. His wife is dying of cancer and he’s trying to come to terms with it.
Tom’s character doesn’t seem too much different from his Draco Malfoy character in the ‘Harry Potter’ films, but that doesn’t make him any less enjoyable to watch. Tom plays a tech genius, Erich Blunt, who has a lot of secrets and has connections to two murders. He has a major temper problem, but he seems to feel like he is untouchable.
The first episode introduces the characters and the murders and really draws you in. Hildy and Terry are going through difficulties at home and while Hildy seems to be holding it together on the job, Terry is not finding it as easy. I immediately felt drawn to these characters, but I’m not feeling the chemistry yet between them, but that could be because Terry is very withdrawn at the moment, with his wife’s impending death.
As much as Erich seems like a spoiled rich kid, I don’t want to slap him just yet. He seems very likably to the public, but behind closed doors it is another story. The first dead guy sends him an email blackmailing him, but he claims he didn’t get it, he’s behind on emails. Which is a reasonable answer, but then his employee, who he is also sleeping with, ends up dead after he fired her and then rehired her. This is starting to look very suspicious.
‘Murder in the First’ is almost wrapped with its first season and airs on Mondays on TNT at 10/9c. I’m looking forward to checking out the rest of the season.
