Meredith and Derek won’t be going anywhere, at least they can’t be, since Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey signed two-year contracts. It would make sense for them to leave though. They both have great research projects that could win them Harper-Averys and they won’t win them where they are. It also makes sense because it does seem like the logical next step, but as I said, the actors have signed contracts. So Meredith and Derek shouldn’t be going anywhere. How is Meredith going to convince Derek to stay?
Justin Chambers has also signed a two-year deal, so whether they incorporate his character with in this new practice or he fails and comes back. He will be sticking around too.
I think Cristina and Owen getting back together until she leaves is a very bad idea. It could make it harder for Cristina to leave, but really all it will do is make it harder for Owen when she leaves. It just seems like unnecessary heartache. I get why Owen is doing it. The love of his life is leaving him and he wants to hold on as long as he can, but it’s inevitable that she’s leaving. Why make it worse?
I think Cristina is right. The doctors who have a goal to win the Harper-Avery award won’t win it. The point of the award is to honor doctors with innovative thinking that are saving lives. You can’t save lives if your goal is an award. Your goal has to be to save lives.
For instance, what Bailey did was wrong, but she saved a boys life in the process. Stephanie took the fall for Bailey because she didn’t want to see such a great doctor stop practicing medicine. If Bailey took the fall, this procedure could never save another person’s life. The great doctors make sacrifices like this. The only new resident I really liked was Joe, and that was because she brought out the best in Alex and they are perfect for each other. But now I have more respect for Stephanie.
Check out the preview for the season finale next week. We say goodbye to Cristina:
